USE THE POWER OF CURIOSITY TO UPLIFT YOUR LIFE

"I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious."
-Albert Einstein

Harvard Business Review reports that people with a higher "curiosity quotient" are more inquisitive and generate more original ideas, and this thinking style leads to higher levels of knowledge acquisition over time.

Curiosity Leads To Generating Alternatives...

And It leads to fewer decision-making mistakes

According to research by Francesca Gino at the Harvard Business School, curious leaders who ask more inquisitive questions like "Could you tell me more about that?" make fewer decision-making errors.

Gino states that we are "less likely to fall prey to confirmation bias ... and to stereotyping people" when our curiosity goes into overdrive.

YOU CAN BE MORE IMPRESSIVE IN YOUR DAILY CONVERSATIONS

ADD THIS PATTERN TO THE BEGINNING OF YOUR SENTENCES TO INCREASE THE OPTIONS.

"FINISH THE PROJECT JUST ON TIME"

1) I am wondering...... CAN YOU FINISH THE PROJECT ON TIME?

2) "Can you tell me more about this?"

  • INCREASES OPTIONS

  • DESTROYS STYLED THOUGHTS

  • ENABLES CORRECT UNDERSTANDING OF THE FACTS

Susan David from Harvard Medical School explains how to use curiosity to improve relationships:

"If avoiding stress is impossible, how do we adjust our relationship to it?

One of my favorite strategies for changing our relationship to stress is to cultivate curiosity.

In order to distance ourselves from our stress, we must understand where it comes from. We can't do that unless we consider what it might be signposting and examine our experience.

  • What are the circumstances surrounding this stressful moment?

  • How is your behavior contributing to the situation?

  • What does your inner dialogue sound like when you're feeling anxious?

  • How can you invite your values into this moment of challenge?

Recognize the patterns in your responses."
